LE MORNE
Le Morne is situated on the south-west peninsula of the island, 90 minutes drive from SSR International Airport. It is highlighted by a huge basaltic rock, 556m high. It is said that, during slavery times, marooned slaves preferred to jump to death instead of being caught and taken back to their masters. All private self-catering villas, bungalows and studios at Le Morne are set on the slope of the mountain, offering fabulous views over the crystal clear lagoon and the Paradis Hotel Golf Course set at walking distance. None of them are set right on the beach, as several hotels occupy the whole of the beach area featuring golden sand and beautiful swimming spots. A public beach is within easy walking distance.
