EXOTIC WEDDINGS & HONEYMOONS IN MAURITIUS
Introduction The population of Mauritius, over a million, is a mixture of European, African, Chinese and Indian, each ethnical group having influenced its culture by various ways through history, resulting in a special blend that makes Mauritius so unique and attractive. Besides being one of the most picturesque destinations in the world, and already one of the most popular destinations for honeymooners, Mauritius is now gaining popularity as a wedding destination – romantic Mauritius having so much to offer! Its coastline of nearly 100 Kilometres of soft white sandy beaches fringed with casuarinas and palm trees surrounded by crystal-clear waters well-known as a paradise for divers. High class hotels and a large number of beachfront private villas are idyllic settings for wedding ceremonies that could be held in a hotel or in its gardens, but what makes Mauritius so special is that wedding ceremonies may take place on the beach, on a catamaran, or on a desert dream island. Mauritius is one of the few countries offering such a variety of settings for exotic wedding ceremonies. Procedures Procedures for weddings in Mauritius are quite simple, although being slightly more complex for non-resident couples, but our specialised staff will organise everything for the couple, thus taking all the hassles away from them. We will advise them about the documents that must be sent to us at least 6 weeks before their arrival (We have posted that list below so that you may know about them well before the time to sent them to us). We shall inform them about the conditions imposed by the local authorities for their wedding to take place in Mauritius. For example, both the bride and groom need to be over 18 years old, and stay at least 3 days in Mauritius before the wedding day. After inviting the couple to put forward their ideas, we would share our experience with them, planning and organising the whole wedding from scratch, covering pre-wedding hen and stag events, prenuptial spa treatment, catering, wedding cake, flowers, photographer and music… everything! The list of documents that must reach us at least 6 weeks prior to your wedding date is as follows:
We will then write a letter on your behalf to the civil status office on Mauritius stating the date of arrival and the desired date for the marriage and send it together with all the documents to the main civil status office in Port Louis at the least 6 weeks before the ceremony.
The Ceremony The couple may choose from several wedding formulae. The ceremony may be imposing, taking place with all the family and friends around, or very informal in a quiet setting with just the couple. The day after the wedding ceremony, the marriage certificate is normally delivered to the married couple together with their complimentary wedding album already set with the photos taken during the ceremony WEDDING FORMULAE Simple Paradise Wedding Weddings may take place in a variety of surroundings in Mauritius; the simplest one is to have it organised at the couple’s villa or hotel (most hotels have elaborate arrangements for wedding ceremonies). The choice is of course the couple’s.
